Learning to play any instrument can be a massively satisfying experience because you get to acquire new skills and find a new outlet for your creativity.
If you want to start learning the electric guitar you should consider purchasing one in a bundle. There are dozens of reasons for doing this, but many people opt for just buying the guitar on its own. In this piece we are going to discuss the many benefits of buying an electric guitar pack over the instrument alone.
What is included?
Typically, a guitar package will contain everything you need to begin learning to play. This will include (but is not limited to):
- Tutorial DVD
- Strap
- Amplifier
- Stand
- Tuner
- Spares (plectrums, strings)
- Guitar
These items won’t be found in every single guitar package on the market but generally speaking you will find each of these items in most packs. For me one of the most important items is the tutorial DVD (CDs and books also available) because these can be costly when bought separately and as a beginner, you will need the best leg-up possible.
How much should I pay?
The prices of these packages vary considerably depending on the brand of the guitar. For example, an Encore guitar package can cost as little as £80 but a Yamaha pack can cost in excess of £200.
The difference here besides brand name is quality – generally speaking Yamaha are responsible for creating higher quality guitars than Encore, at least in terms of guitar packages. Of course brand awareness adds some perceived value but generally speaking if you are very serious about learning, opt for a more expensive make and model of instrument.
Where can I buy?
Online or in-store but if you’re smart, you’ll use both. You should shop around online for a guitar pack that you like the look of, and then pop into your local music store to see if they have it available. If so, ask to see a demonstration of the guitar and if you are brave enough, give it a go yourself! One of the best things about buying from a store is you will get guidance from a real person rather than a sales pitch online.
